Feel the power of deep bass

Powering our home theater system and soundbar with added bass, the SA-SW3 compact wireless subwoofer draws you even deeper into movies and music. Enjoy louder and cleaner bass for a more cinematic surround sound experience.

Rich, deep bass

With 200W of deep bass from a powerful 160mm driver, this bass reflex subwoofer amplifies the impact of everything you watch and listen to. Feel the deep rumble of thunder and heavy bass punches without distortion. You’ll also hear more authentic voices and extra fidelity for truly original soundtracks.

Omnidirectional block design

Our home theater system, soundbar, and optional speakers have remained designed around a common omnidirectional block concept. The design of the SA-SW3 is ideally suited to these systems. Its sophisticated rounded edges form one solid block providing an expansive sound. The combination of rich textures of materials emphasizes affinity with any living room environment.

Technology for first-class sound quality

Sigma Magnetic Circuit for deep, powerful bass

Sony’s proprietary technology, the Σ (Sigma) Magnetic Circuit, enables deep, powerful bass by maximizing the magnetic force that drives the voice coil. In contrast, conventionally shaped circuits let much of this magnetic force escape.

Separate notch edge

Another proprietary Sony technology, Separated Notch Edge, improves vertical amplitude symmetry, which is essential for pure sound quality. It achieves this by using concentric cuts on edge to help control tension inside and outside the edge of the membrane.

Easy to set up

Turn on the SA-SW3 subwoofer, which automatically creates a wireless connection to your home theater or soundbar system. It’s quick and easy, without the need for tangled cables.

Why we like it – Sony SACS9

Available at a very affordable price, the Sony SACS9 is a subwoofer that can quickly become an excellent addition to your home theater system. It provides strong performance while watching movies or just enjoying the beats of any music. You even get a wide frequency range that gives you high-quality bass while measuring up to a compact subwoofer with a seemingly simple yet elegant design. You should also read our Audi/B&O Telescopic Speaker System review if you want a state-of-the-art speaker.

Performance is relatively low considering the price.

Do you want to try a compact speaker with stunning musicality and breathtaking bass? Unfortunately, the amplifier comes with a peak output power of 115W, which although moderate, falls short with a continuous output of 34.5W.

However, coupled with a frequency response range of 28-200Hz and a cone-shaped speaker, you still get a powerful low-end sound that is clear and sharp with good resonance. In addition, the bass reflex channel, which suppresses unwanted noise, gives the subwoofer better sound reproduction, and therefore bass that still sounds quite strong and deep, despite not having such a high output power.

Options like the Polk Audio PSW505 BIC America F12 come with better and more output power giving you much stronger bass that’s neither too boomy nor distorted, so if you have a bit more money to spare, these may be better options worth for. Please read our review of the SVS SB 1000 Gaming Subwoofer.

In addition, with Mica Reinforced Cellular (MRC) woofers, you get much better sound quality with deeper bass because the fiber on the woofer firmly holds its shape even during sound playback, so the sound quality is not compromised. Furthermore, unwanted noise remains prevented as the noise waves are acoustically absorbed while dampening the vibrations inside the cabinet, giving you a much clearer and noise-free sound quality from your active subwoofer.

Measuring 11.5 x 16 x 13.5 inches and weighing just 25 pounds, the Sony SACS9 is much lighter than the Polk Audio PSW505 and much more compact as well. It makes it easy to place in your room without taking up much space, and with four-foot pads, it won’t move even at high volumes. The Sony SACS9 also comes with traditional rear ports ranging from standard RCA input to speaker line outputs, making for easy installation and very convenient placement with the included 6.5in phono cable.

If you happen to encounter any damage when you remove the smooth vinyl foam grille, which remains made to be removable, be sure to get it replaced or repaired within the short 2-year warranty period. It is because its driver material is woven fiber instead of the more standard paper or fabric of other woofers. So you won’t have to worry too much about any form of wear or damage over time, but the 2-year warranty might raise some eyebrows.

However, given that this is a small compromise for such a great subwoofer, its design is pretty simple and not a selling point. Instead, you get a standard sleek black finish that, along with a solid wood veneer, provides a quality design that won’t affect your overall and bass sound due to changes in temperature or humidity.

At $158, the Sony SACS9 falls into the more affordable subwoofer options. It offers quite a deep bass and matches its price in terms of design and functionality. Overall, it will serve you well for a standard desktop speaker system with more peak power than the Polk Audio PSW10. Still, for better music quality and more robust bass, slightly more expensive products like the Polk Audio PSW505 or BIC America F12 will do you good. It just seems like a better value to me.

Wrap Sony SACS9

While it may not have the most robust bass or aesthetic design, the Sony SACS9 will give you your money’s worth at the price range it comes in. It gives you a pretty good home theater system but will fall short in output power. It won’t reach the end of the room, so if you’re okay with amazing lows without the best bass quality, the Sony SACS9, with its simple but durable design, can be just what you would like. It’s compact and comfortable to use, but if you can dig deeper into your pockets, more powerful options like the PSW505 are worth considering.

If you’re looking for a very inexpensive subwoofer that will sufficiently expand similarly affordable bookshelf speakers, the SACS9 is definitely a solid choice. However, speaker prices fluctuate, so the best “pick” often boils down to what’s best at the time.

We will say, though, that if you’re willing to spend a little more, there are many more options and potential performance. Some such recommendations can remain found at the links below.
